Before and After | Barbour Spangle Office
Buying our house-office on Lindsay Street was a labor of love. Christi B drove by it daily since it was right down the street from our old location, so after a year or more of seeing the For Sale sign, curiosity got the best of us and we decided to take a look.
When we walked through the house for the first time it was in shambles. It had been abandoned for quite some time so vacancy and extreme temperatures had taken its toll. There had been a fire at some point, a major leak in the kitchen, the house had been broken into and stripped of pipes, wires and other valuable items, windows were broken and there was a family of raccoons living inside. What a mess! Most people would turn around and run the other way! We took a few steps in and never looked back.
Inspired by the incredible accomplishments of the Bernice Bienstock Furniture Library (located just down the street) we decided that the house was the ultimate project for an interior design studio and set out to restore the property to its original beauty. Christi S sits on the executive board for the library and we witnessed the massive renovation that home has experienced to make it a historical jewel for both High Point and the furniture industry.
The process of renovating such an old and run down property was lengthy and challenging to say the least, but it was definitely worth it – and now, the home is alive again. We did everything from installing all new interior workings such as electrical and HVAC to replacing the windows, knocking down some walls, and carefully restoring the plaster walls.

Outside we did our best to restore the beauty of the property by engaging with our local friends Price Nursery to design a plan in keeping with the original property. We were also able to save the beautiful old live oak in the backyard by changing the original parking lot design from asphalt to gravel – a substance that will allow the tree to still receive water.
As Americans, we spend a huge part of our day at work. We’re glad that our office feels like a home.
As life-long residents of High Point we felt committed to keeping our business in High Point and found that the Emerywood area, with its close proximity to Uptown and Downtown, was the ideal location for us. The city of High Point along with the community have long supported Barbour Spangle and this is our way of showing thanks and supporting the city and community.
