Before and After | Designer Tip
So … we’re going to let you in on an easy, but hugely helpful piece of advice. It is the perfect method to use when space planning during your home renovation AND you only need one tool to do it.
Drum roll please
When you don’t have access to a space planning program like AutoCAD – or even if you’re just more of a visual person – painter’s tape is the way to go to ensure everything you need will fit in your space and you will be happy with where it is. You can use it for cabinets or furniture placement. You can check the sizes of new windows or doors and even to indicate locations of light fixtures or wall décor. The pre-planning possibilities are endless!

This project was a complete renovation. Sometimes you simply need a visual to better understand the space. We get it. Not everyone went to school to read floor plans! In the photo above the perimeter cabinets and the island were identified for the client using painter’s tape. If you look at the photo closely enough, you will see the footprint of the old kitchen island where the floor is a different color. The blue tape marks where the new island was being placed. And…below, can you spot the light fixtures and shelf that were planned with the tape? If you look even more closely…you will see that we even changed the ceiling line and column placement on this project.
With this kind of trade trick we think it’s safe to say that you should stock up on painter’s tape for your next renovation project, right? Our suggestion is definitely.
