What Inspires Hillary
Lately, I’ve been really inspired by new traditional interiors. I love the way this style honors tradition while pushing boundaries. It tips its hat to the detail and quality of past styles while introducing bold and unique forms to the picture. New traditional can be moody, nautical, romantic, preppy – it doesn’t have to be stuffy or formal – but always has an air of surprise.
For example, at first this study (above) looks traditional, with it’s leather bound books and aged brass hardware. But when you take a closer look, the deep navy cabinetry has a fairly simple profile (especially with those beautiful, stitched-leather drawer fronts!) and the wire base side table definitely adds a modern flair.
I can’t get over these deeper, less-saturated colors riding the trend circuit right now. Going bold with navy, green, and even black – mixed with softer blush and cream hues is stunning. The combination can be very Romantic when blended for a large scale floral wallcovering or across a tablescape.
Last but not least, nature. From colors found in nature and the use of natural materials to the importance of greenery and natural light in our environments, nature is our greatest source of inspiration. No greater design has ever been created.
