Keeping a mask in your car console or bag, wearing gloves while you pump gas, having that bottle of hand sanitizer close by at all times… These are just a few of the “new normal “habits we’ve developed in the last four months. And while we as citizens and patrons have been taking extra precautions to remain safe in the midst of this pandemic, our favorite local shops, restaurants, and cafes have been doing the same. What’s even more exciting – some of our favorite local hubs have been using this time to make their space and services even better for their customers when we return.
One of our all-time favorite High Point businesses, DeBeen Espresso, has done just that. DeBeen, which has become a staple not just in High Point but throughout the Triad, hasn’t let this pandemic slow them down a bit! We (virtually!) sat down with DeBeen’s Marketing and Operations Manager, Charis Dinger, to learn more about all the exciting changes DeBeen is making. From shipping DeBeen coffee beans right to your front door to opening a second location in Winston-Salem, this little High Point icon has been on the move!
Q. A lot has been changing in the world these days. What are some of the changes DeBeen Espresso is making?
A. We’ve had a lot of exciting updates with DeBeen, including the launch of our online store and mobile ordering site, as well as new renovations in our beloved café.
Q. What should people know about how to use your online store? What services are you offering through that site?
A. The number one thing people should know about our online store is that we offer mobile drink ordering as well as shipment of beans and retail items right to your front door! We are also extremely passionate about reaching every customer’s comfortability level with the current climate, and offer the option of curbside delivery with our mobile site. Utilizing the online store is a great way to beat the rush, or to send DeBeen Espresso merchandise to all your friends and family in the U.S.
Q. And how can people access this online store?
Q. Indoor renovations are exciting too! What have those interior changes entailed?
A. We used our weeks of having the inside of the café closed to our advantage! Our staff worked hard to repaint, clean and restyle the entire café so our customers could enjoy an updated, inspired surrounding when we were able to completely open our doors again. Additionally, our president Debbie Maier constructed new stadium seating that we are so eager to debut in the coming weeks.
Q. What specials can people can take part in over the coming weeks?
A. We are currently planning our upcoming seasonal promotions and are excited to be sharing new seasonal drink options over the coming months. Our next special that people can anticipate is our Christmas in July celebration coming late July!
Q. What are the precautions DeBeen has taken in Phase 2 of Governor Cooper’s order?
A. DeBeen Espresso is passionate about doing what is best for both our staff and community. In respect to the North Carolina governor’s recent order, we require all patrons to wear a mask to enter the café unless they qualify within the exceptions. We offer partial indoor and outdoor seating but ask that social distancing be observed. Our staff has increased the cleaning regimen of high-use surfaces. Furthermore, we offer curbside pickup and bean shipment to meet all the comfortability needs of our customers.
Q. How has DeBeen seen the community coming together during this difficult time?
A. From the very first day we started serving coffee outside, to the season we are in now, we have been so blessed by the way the High Point community has stayed so loyal to supporting local businesses in times of hardship. We had a great number of customers support us virtually through purchasing gift cards, as well as had lots of people come up to our outside stand to tell us they were wishing the best for us and will continue to find ways to support us in these times.
“It was the sweetest gift getting to hear people’s hearts and to also be a support system for the community as we all were navigating such newness.”
DeBeen Espresso is currently open seven days a week, and is continuing to fuel our caffeine addiction during this season. And unsurprisingly, they are continuing to fuel our sense of close-knit community, even in the midst of social distancing.
